Stephenson Named Editor-in-Chief of Fungal Diversity
Steve Stephenson, a research professor in the department of biological sciences at the University of Arkansas, has been named as the new editor-in-chief of the journal Fungal Diversity.
Fungal Diversity is an international, peer-reviewed journal that publishes papers in all fields of mycology, with preference to articles covering biodiversity, systematic and molecular phylogeny. Stephenson served as an associate editor of the journal for a number of years. He also served as an associate editor of Mycologia, the leading journal of mycology in the United States, during the period of 2003-2009.
Stephenson arrived at the University of Arkansas in 2003 after spending 27 years at Fairmont State College (now University) in West Virginia. He is internationally known for his studies of slime molds. His research program on this group of organisms has taken him to all seven continents, and he has collected and studied slime molds in every major type of terrestrial ecosystem. Stephenson is the author or coauthor of six books and more than 200 papers in peer-reviewed journals. At the University of Arkansas, he teaches courses in forest ecology, plant biology and plant ecology.
