Arkansas Commissioner of Education to Speak on Campus
Tom Kimbrell, commissioner of education for Arkansas, will speak about his first year on the job at noon Friday, Jan. 28, on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville.
Kimbrell's lecture, "Lessons Learned as Commissioner in First Year," will be in Room 343 of the Graduate Education Building. It is sponsored by the department of education reform and is free and open to the public. RSVP at http://www.uark.edu/ua/der/ for a light lunch.
An Arkansas educator for 25 years, Kimbrell was appointed commissioner in September 2009 by Gov. Mike Beebe and the Arkansas Board of Education. He served as executive director of the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators for four years prior to coming to the Arkansas Department of Education. Before that, he was superintendent of the North Little Rock and Paragould school districts. He has also worked as a director of fiscal services in the Paragould School District, as assistant principal in the Corning School District, and as a teacher and coach for the Paragould and Pocahontas school districts.
Kimbrell earned his doctorate and master's degree in education from Arkansas State University, and he earned his bachelor's degree in education from the University of Arkansas.Contacts
