UA Influenza Cases on Rise

Influenza has begun to show up in patients at Pat Walker Health Center.

In the last three weeks, 44 cases of influenza have been identified in patients who came to Pat Walker Health Center. While this is not an outbreak, this does mean that these students, faculty and staff have a communicable disease and should self-isolate until their fever is normal for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medications).

For students, this may mean missing classes until they are no longer able to pass the flu virus to others. All faculty, instructors and teaching assistants are asked to assist in the reduction of the spread of flu and to help students with effective methods of making up class work. The entire university community is encouraged to practice good respiratory hygiene during this flu season. Together, we can reduce the risk of contracting the flu and keep everyone on task during this spring semester.

Pat Walker Health Center will continue to update the university community on the occurrence of flu in our community.
