Journalism Graduate Wins In-Depth Reporting Award

Taniah Tudor, who graduated from the University of Arkansas in December, was recently named a winner in the 51st annual William Randolph Hearst Foundation's Journalism Awards Program. Tudor placed tenth, and received a certificate of merit, for her article From Behind the Windshield: an In-Depth Report on Midwestern Speed.

Tudor, from Natural Dam, graduated with a B.A. degree in journalism and Latin American studies. She wrote the article for an advanced non-fiction writing class during the fall semester, and it was published in the online edition of the Arkansas Traveler.

Tudor said the story grew out of her life-long interest in both racing and vintage cars, interests she had never had a chance to pursue until she started working on the article. Her research led her to a road racing track west of Tulsa, one of the few tracks of its type in America. There she met every one from the drivers to the track’s owner. And going after the story ultimately put her in the passenger seat of an Ariel Atom as it roared around the track.

Having proved that she is fearless and can write, Tudor is now looking for a job as a reporter.
