Outstanding Adviser Award Recipients Named

The University of Arkansas Outstanding Adviser Award recipients for the 2010-2011 academic year are Cynthia K. Moore from the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food Life Sciences as the outstanding faculty adviser and Jason Blankenship from the Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences Honors Program as the outstanding professional adviser. The award recipients receive $2,500, are recognized at a reception held in their honor during the fall semester and are nominated for the national academic advising awards sponsored by NACADA The Global Community for Academic Advising. Recipients were selected from a pool of nominees by the Academic Advising Council for their overwhelming evidence of qualities and practices that distinguished them as outstanding advisers.

Moore is an assistant professor of food, human nutrition and hospitality in the School of Human Environmental Sciences, Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences. One of her letters of support stated, "She plays a critical role of mentoring dietetic students in career placement, particularly by assisting them in securing a post-baccalaureate dietetic internship leading to the registered dietitian credential, which is highly competitive. In addition, Dr. Moore has been very effective in assisting students having difficulty, helping them to stay engaged in their academic program and has utilized the multiple resources of the University's Career Development Center."

Blankenship is the associate director of the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences Honors Program. A colleague stated, "Jason works hard to ensure that the quality of his advising remains consistent for the hundreds of students he may assist over a calendar year. He maintains a full advising load while remaining available to faculty, coworkers, parents, and students in need. He creates a safe learning environment for all of his advisees and accurately counsels an incredibly diverse and vast body of students."
