FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Eight University of Arkansas graduate students were named this week as first-place winners in the fourth annual “From Abstract to Contract: Graduate Student Research Symposium.” The competition is designed to help graduate students ready themselves to present research at conferences. Four events make up the symposium: workshops on how to prepare a research poster, how to present a research poster, and how to network at a conference, and the poster competition itself.

“These are our nation’s future faculty and researchers; we’re very proud of all the graduate students who entered their research in the competition,” said Provost Sharon Gaber of the competition. “This annual competition is a welcome opportunity to highlight the innovative research our graduate students are doing alongside our faculty.”

Fifty-six students were registered this year in the competition, which is sponsored by the office of the provost, the Graduate School and International Education, the vice provost for research and economic development, the Career Development Center, and the Graduate Dean’s Student Advisory Board. Winners receive $100, a recognition plaque and certificate, and business cards to take to conferences.
