Jeff Bonacci, coordinator of the athletic training education program at the University of Arkansas, has been selected as an item writer for the Board of Certification that certifies individuals with education and experience in the practice of athletic training. Bonacci, who is also a clinical assistant professor of kinesiology, joins the board's exam development committee for a one-year term. He has served as program coordinator for athletic training in the College of Education and Health Professions since the master's degree program was created. The first cohort class enrolled in 2004, and the program received its initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Athletic Training Education in 2005. The program was re-accredited for a full five years in 2010.

The Board of Certification offers the only accredited certification program for athletic trainers in the United States, according to its website. Chad Kinart, exam development coordinator, said the board looks for people in specific settings who bring specific skills to the process in order to balance the exam development committee.

"This is considered a base level where everyone comes in, and there is room for growth," Kinart said.

The University of Arkansas' athletic training education program has an overall pass rate on the national board exam of 96 percent, compared to the 38.2 percent overall national pass rate.
