The department of university recreation will host a Member Appreciation Picnic on Thursday, July 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside the third-floor entrance of the HPER building on Stadium Drive. University of Arkansas students, faculty, staff and all other HPER members are welcome to attend. Hamburgers, hot dogs, vegetarian options, sides and drinks will be served.

Door prizes including massages, fitness assessments and CPR registrations will be drawn at 12:30 p.m. Faculty and staff who purchase or renew an annual membership at this time will receive a 10 percent discount, as well as a UREC gift bag. The first attendees will receive a UREC reusable tote bag while supplies last.

The event provides an opportunity to visit with UREC staff regarding the new satellite fitness facility currently under construction in the Arkansas Union, which will feature almost 6,000 square feet of fitness floor space, a 1,500-square-foot group exercise studio, and men’s and women’s locker/shower facilities. The new facility is scheduled to open during the fall 2011 semester and will occupy space vacated by the University Bookstore. This facility will help UREC to better serve its 3,000 daily visitors by adding fitness and programming space, as well as diversifying location. UREC staff will be available to present architectural renderings, give tours of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building and answer questions regarding membership structure, facility amenities and featured equipment.

In the event of rain, the event will be held inside the third-floor gymnasiums of the HPER Building. For further information, contact Sam Fehr at 575-7382 orsfehr@uark.edu.
