Summer Blackboard training for faculty

Registration is now open for summer Blackboard workshops. Blackboard and related applications workshops are scheduled from July 18 to Aug. 18 at a variety of times to provide faculty with multiple opportunities to participate. Co-sponsored by IT Services and Global Campus, the workshops will be taught by instructional designers and one-on-one consultation sessions will also be available.

Blackboard Course Content Structure
This beginning level workshop will cover creating an effective content structure in a Blackboard course using instructional best practices. Participants will learn how to add links and tools to the navigation and items, folders, and video to the content area.

Blackboard Quizzes, Tests, and Respondus
This workshop will demonstrate how to use Respondus to create, modify, and upload tests, quizzes, and surveys in Blackboard. It will also cover advanced topics including determining test/quiz options and adaptive release rules that allow for selectively released tests to specific students at different times.

Blackboard Assignment Tool
Using the Assignment Tool with Grade Center allows instructors to organize and track individual or group student work and students to submit their coursework through Blackboard. Participants will learn how to create an assignment that is automatically generated in the Grade Center. This workshop will also cover other benefits of using the Assignment Tool with Grade Center, including how to create, view, grade and give feedback on assignments.

Blackboard Collaboration Tools
This workshop will provide faculty with support to help students feel connected by exploring collaboration tools such as wikis and blogs.

Blackboard Grade Center
In this more advanced workshop, participants will learn how to set up the Grade Center. The workshop will also cover entering and deleting grades and comments, clearing attempts, exempting grades, adding extra credit grades, changing display options, setting up Total/Weighted Total columns, customizing the letter grade schema, working with column organization, and downloading/uploading the Grade Center.

Elluminate Virtual Classroom
This workshop will cover the basics of using Blackboard to schedule sessions in Elluminate, a web conferencing tool that provides a virtual classroom, online interaction with students using Voice over IP (VoIP), web cams, and live chat, and a common whiteboard. Elluminate can be used to teach students at a distance, bring virtual speakers to the classroom, or hold virtual office hours.

One-on-One Consultation
One-on-one sessions are also available at designated times for faculty and staff to make appointments with instructional designers and receive support on any aspect of online course development using Blackboard, Elluminate, or Respondus.
