Scheduled Power Outage to Cause Disruption Aug. 2 and 3

Information Technology Services and the department of facilities management announce an upcoming controlled power outage that will interrupt access to a wide range of computer systems and applications, beginning Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 10 p.m. The outage will shut down the Administration Services Building and the university data center. All storage and server data will be protected during the outage.

IT Services expects most buildings on campus to maintain Internet access and network connectivity with a possible temporary interruption to some network services. Exchange email and calendaring services should remain accessible throughout the outage, along with wireless network access, PrintSmart, VPN and most authentication services. Systems that will be down include most of the university's web presence, UA Mail, ISIS, Blackboard Learn, webBASIS, BASIS, PASSweb, Newswire, UA Events Calendar, Razorbucks, MyDocs, VLab, Listserv, emPower, SRE, and Gizmo.

The outage will allow Facilities Management to repair the generator transfer switch that was damaged during the February 26 power failure. Facilities Management has scheduled the repairs and resulting power outage on August 3, from midnight to 4 a.m. IT Services will begin shutting down systems and servers at 10 p.m. on Tuesday in preparation for the outage and expects to begin bringing systems back online at 4 a.m. on Wednesday.

IT Services anticipates services will be restored by 6 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3. Should downtime be extended for any reason, users can access information about the outage through Facebook (http://facebook.com/uarkITS) and Twitter (http://twitter.com/uaits).
