Razorbacks to Remember Sept. 11 During Game Against New Mexico
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – When the University of Arkansas football team faces New Mexico on Sept. 10 in Little Rock, the day will be designated Razorbacks Remember in tribute to the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.
“We want to invite all Razorback fans to join us for a Red, White and Blue Out for the New Mexico game at War Memorial Stadium,” said Jeff Long, vice chancellor and director of athletics. “Even as we commemorate the 10th anniversary of one of the most tragic days in our nation’s history, we will come together to remember those who were lost. We will also celebrate the heroism of the men and women who serve our country as first responders and continue to protect our freedom as members of the United States Armed Forces.”
As part of Razorbacks Remember, the university's athletic department is asking all fans to participate in the Red, White and Blue Out by wearing alternating red or white depending on their seat location inside War Memorial Stadium. Fans in odd-numbered sections are asked to wear white, and fans in even-numbered sections are asked to wear red.
Fans can purchase red or white T-shirts featuring the Red, White and Blue Razorback logo, and proceeds will be donated to the Wounded Warriors Project, a program the athletic department has partnered with for the past two years. The officially licensed shirts are available during the 2011 football regular season from Hog Heaven, online at ArkansasRazorbacks.com, at Game Day Superstore in North Little Rock or at War Memorial Stadium on game day. University of Arkansas students will receive a free blue Razorback Remembers T-shirt to fill the student sections. The Razorback Remembers shirt is exclusively available to University of Arkansas students and is not available for purchase.
The Red, White and Blue Razorback logo will be painted at midfield. Before the national anthem, there will be a moment of silence. There also is a scheduled flyover from the 189th Air Wing of the Arkansas National Guard based at the Little Rock Air Force Base. In addition, the Razorback Marching Band will perform patriotic music at halftime.
The University of Arkansas will host a series of memorial events in conjunction with the anniversary. A full list, including details on the events, will be released next week.
The Razorbacks and Lobos are set to face each other at 6 p.m. in a game to be televised on ESPNU.
