Chemistry and Biochemistry Fall Lecture Series Begins With Noted Biochemist

The department of chemistry and biochemistry Fall Lecture Series presents Sunney I. Chan, the George Grant Hoag Professor Emeritus of Biophysical Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology, who will present “Learning from Nature to Develop a Catalyst for the Facile Conversion of Methane to Methanol,” Monday, Aug. 29, at 3:30 p.m. in CHEM 144.

Sunney is a distinguished biochemist. He is a world leader in the applications of physical methods to the study of the structure and function of membrane proteins. He has received numerous honors in recognition of his scientific contributions, including the William C. Rose Award from the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (2004), and election to Academia Sinica (1986) and TWAS (Academy of Sciences for the Developing World) (2004).

The event is open to the public. A reception will take place after the seminar in CHEM 105.
