Parash Kalita, a doctoral candidate in mechanical engineering, received honors at the Society of Manufacturing Engineers’ annual North American Manufacturing Research Conference this summer in Corvallis, Ore. Kalita was awarded two prestigious honors at the conference, receiving top prizes for both Best Conference Paper and Best Conference Presentation.

Parash won these prizes for his paper and presentation titled, “Fundamental Understanding of Process Mechanisms for Application of Advanced Nanolubricant Formulations in Environmentally Conscious Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) Machining.” The paper is co-authored by Ajay Malshe, Distinguished Professor of mechanical engineering and Parash’s faculty adviser.

“I want to congratulate Parash on his achievement and a job well done," said Malshe. "Parash is one of many students I have had the privilege to work with over the years and his achievement goes to show that our students are the best of the best to lead innovation in tribology, lubricants, nanotechonolgy and related areas. Their breakthrough research and communications skills have set them apart from their peers.”

These accolades are two of many awards Parash has received as a mechanical engineering graduate student for his outstanding academic performance and devotion to science and innovation, including his selection in 2009 as winner of the Arkansas Academy of Mechanical Engineers’ annual Graduate Research Symposium.
