Alexandra Pappas, assistant professor of classical studies, has been appointed to a year’s residency at Harvard University’s Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, D.C. Pappas, who is one of only six resident fellows selected, noted that the program is the most competitive in the field of classical studies.

During her fellowship year, Pappas will conduct an interdisciplinary study exploring for the first time the coextensive development of ancient Greek visual and literary culture, and reassessing the Western origins of word-image relations.

In an e-mail from Washington, D.C., Pappas wrote, “I am excited to be at the Center, because I am able to take advantage of the incomparable resources for scholars of Classics, including 24-access to one of the world's premier – and non-circulating – libraries in my field, and the invaluable fellowship of the other scholars-in-residence here. The recognition of my research agenda with such support by Harvard University and the Center for Hellenic Studies is the ultimate affirmation that this long-term project is worthwhile, and it will facilitate its completion this academic year.”
