Sustainability Film Series Begins Monday Night

The Office for Campus Sustainability will host four documentary films this week in the first “Sustainability Film Series.” The films will be shown at 7 p.m. each night in the University Programs Theater in the Arkansas Union.

Monday, Sept. 26: Garbage Warrior.

Shot over three years and in four countries, is a timely portrait of a determined visionary, architect Michael Reynolds. For 30 years New Mexico-based Reynolds has worked to advance the art of “Earthship Biotecture” by building self-sufficient, off-the-grid communities ;using such materials as beer cans, car tires and water bottles.

Tuesday, Sept 27: Tapped.

From the producers of Who Killed the Electric Car, this timely documentary is a behind the-scenes look into the bottled water industry.

Wednesday, Sept. 28: Climate Refugees

This is a documentary film about “the human face of climate change.” A climate refugee is a person displaced by climatically induced environmental disasters such as droughts, desertification, sea level rise, and the more frequent occurrence of extreme weather events.

Thursday, Sept. 29: Natural State of America

This film examines the four decade struggle to prevent unnecessary herbicide use in the beautiful and biodiverse Arkansas Ozarks.

The Sustainability Film Series is one of the many events this fall associated with this year’s One Book, One Community project, which is built around No Impact Man, by Colin Beavan, which chronicles his family’s effort to learn how to live without having a negative impact on the environment.
