UA Journalism Professor wins Arkansas Governor's Arts Award

Professor Larry Foley of the Walter J. Lemke Department of Journalism within the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences was selected as a recipient of the Governor's Arts Awards in the Individual Artist Award category. Foley's work as a documentary filmmaker and writer for more than 30 years has earned him numerous national and international honors, including three Emmy awards. Programs he has written and produced have aired nationally on PBS, ABC, CBS and ESPN. His most recent production with colleague Dale Carpenter, chair of the Journalism department, is a documentary about life along the War Eagle river which was recently nominated for Emmy awards in four categories.
The Governor's Arts Awards are presented by Gov. Mike Beebe and the Arkansas Arts Council. The awards recognize individuals and corporations for their outstanding contributions to the arts in Arkansas. The recipients were selected by an independent panel of arts professionals from around the state. Each recipient will receive an original work of art created by Arkansas artist Winston Taylor of Russellville, recipient of the 2011 Arkansas Living Treasure award.
