Password Security Tips for National Cyber Security Awareness Month

Year-round, IT Services encourages users to use secure passwords, protect their personal information, be cautious about phishing scams, keep software updated, and shop safely online. However, the IT Services Security Team would like to bring these important issues to the forefront during October, National Cyber Security Awareness Month.

The IT Services Security Team stresses the importance of using secure passwords. Remember that passwords are like underwear. Change them often, be mysterious, don't leave them lying around, and never share them with friends. To learn more about protecting your delicate information, see http://techarticles.uark.edu/security/password_tips. For UARK account password guidelines, see http://its.uark.edu/passwords.

National Cyber Security Awareness Month is an annual effort to increase awareness and prevention of online security problems, spearheaded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance (http://www.staysafeonline.org). The Higher Education Information Security Council promotes and participates in the annual campaign, joining forces with a range of public and private sector organizations to expand cyber security awareness on campuses across the country.
