Chemical Engineering Students Take Home Awards from 2011 AIChE Conference
Two chemical engineering students placed third in their respective categories in the undergraduate student poster competition at the 2011 AIChE Annual Student Conference held on Oct. 14-17 in Minneapolis, Minn.
Allison McAtee, a senior chemical engineering student, placed third in the Environmental category for her paper titled "Hollow Fiber Membranes for Direct Carbon Dioxide Addition in Algae Raceways".
William R. Erwin, also a senior, placed third in the Separations category for his paper titled "Incorporation of Peptoids into Membrane Based Chiral Molecule Separation."
Over 200 students competed in eight different categories covering their research in chemical engineering and related disciplines.
The annual conference, hosted this year by Iowa State University and University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, provided the opportunity for student engineers from more than 100 schools the chance to compete among their peers and increase their knowledge on a wide range of subjects relevant to the latest research and technologies in emerging growth areas.
Other chemical engineering undergraduate students in attendance included Edward Jenner and Candace Park, and Hannah Moreland, from biological and agricultural engineering. Chemical engineering graduate students in attendance included, Ellen Brune, Drew DeJarnette, Rohit Dhamdere, McKinzie Fruchtl, Melissa Hebert, Thomas Potts, and Phillip Turner.
