Studio 804 Director to Present 'Design and Construction' Lecture in Little Rock

Dan Rockhill will present a lecture titled “Design and Construction: Hand and Mind, The Work of Rockhill and Associates and Studio 804” at 6 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Arkansas Arts Center, 501 E. Ninth St., in Little Rock. A 5:30 p.m. reception will precede the lecture.

Rockhill is the JL Constant Distinguished Professor of Architecture at the University of Kansas and executive director of Studio 804. He and his students have recently completed four LEED Platinum buildings in Kansas and two Passive Institute Certifications. They have received many awards, including three American Institute of Architects Honor Awards, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards Prize, Architecture magazine’s “home of the year” and multiple awards from Residential Architect magazine.

The work of the firm, Rockhill and Associates, is tightly bound to the natural milieu and culture of the Kansas region. In the spirit of regionalism, the area’s archetypal forms, Spartan aesthetics, frugal methods and relationships to nature permeate the results. The firm has received numerous awards, including Residential Architect magazine’s Top Firm in 2006.

This lecture is part of the Art of Architecture Lecture Series, sponsored by the Architecture and Design Network, with the support of the Central Arkansas chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the Arkansas Arts Center and the Fay Jones School of Architecture.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the arts center at 501-372-4000.
