Schmidtke to Advise Testing Institute About 21st Century Workplace Skills

Carsten Schmidtke, University of Arkansas clinical assistant professor of human resource and workforce development, has been chosen to work as a subject matter expert for National Occupational Competency Testing Institute. The Michigan-based company provides technical competency assessment products and services for secondary and post-secondary educational institutions in the United States and other countries.

Schmidtke will work on the company's test-revision team for the 21st Century Skills for Workplace Success assessment. Subject matter experts come from academia, business and industry, he said.

"NOCTI is a testing organization that validates knowledge and skill sets of individuals coming from the work force working toward a degree in career and technical education," Schmidtke said. "We accept NOCTI test results toward credit in our human resource development undergraduate program."

Schmidtke joined the faculty of the College of Education and Health Professions in 2008. He conducts research into 21st century workplace skills.

"These skills are crucial for anyone in workforce development," he said. "Much of our research in workforce development revolves around identifying the needed skills and finding ways to teach them."
