Dean Stacy L. Leeds of the University of Arkansas School of Law has appointed Steve Sheppard to serve on her administrative leadership team. Sheppard, the William H. Enfield Professor of Law, will serve as associate dean for research and faculty development.

“Professor Sheppard is one of our most respected and prolific legal scholars,” said Leeds. “He will be an invaluable resource for our faculty and to our research partners across campus and at other institutions and universities.”

As associate dean for research and faculty development, Sheppard will organize the mentoring of untenured faculty and encourage and facilitate faculty research and workshops, including scholarly exchange with peer institutions.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Juris Doctor and Master of Laws from Columbia University and a post-J.D. certificate in international law from the Parker School for International and Comparative Law at Columbia. He was made Master of Letters by Oxford University and Doctor of the Science of Law by Columbia University. Among his many publications are the recently released Bouvier Law Dictionary and I Do Solemnly Swear: The Moral Obligations of Legal Officials.

Sheppard is looking forward to his job: “This is a great time for the law school. Our faculty and our students are producing scholarship that helps the state, the nation and the globe. Helping them enhance that productivity is a real treat.”
