Black History Month Begins with Look at ‘The State of the Black College Student’
The first event of this year’s Black History Month on the University of Arkansas campus will be a screening and discussion of the documentary film “The State of the Black College Student,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1 in the Arkansas Union Theatre. Darryl (Doc) Scriven, who wrote and produced the film will be at the event to talk about such issues as college graduation rates, loan debt, and skill acquisition through the lens of African American students. A reception will follow the event.
This event is hosted by the Black Students Association, the student organization Sankofa, the Black Graduate Student Association, and the University of Arkansas Multicultural Center and is funded through student fee money allocated by the Associated Student Government.
The Black History Month Council is organizing several events on campus during the month of February.
