New Book Seeks to Update Statistical Methods for Agricultural Sciences

A new and first-of-its-kind book provides a guide for the use of modern statistical methods in agricultural and natural resources sciences. Ed Gbur, professor of agricultural statistics with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences, is a lead author.

Analysis of Generalized Linear Mixed Models in the Agricultural and Natural Resources Sciences is by a team of authors who are part of a multi-state project to educate scientists in the agricultural and natural resources sciences about modern statistical methodology, says a press release from the publisher.

Gbur said, “There’s a gap between statistical theory and practice and the statistical methodologies currently being used within the agricultural and natural resources communities.  There needs to be a change in the standard statistical operating procedure from the last decade.”

The book by Edward E. Gbur, Walter W. Stroup, Kevin S. McCarter, Susan Durham, Linda J. Young, Mary Christman, Mark West and Matthew Kramer is published by the American Society of Agronomy, Soil Science Society of America and Crop Science Society of America. It is available in hard cover at www.SocietyStore.org, Barnes & Noble’s online store and Amazon’s online store. Read an excerpt at www.agronomy.org.
