Ben J. Altheimer Moot Court Competition Finals Set

The final round of the 2012 Ben J. Altheimer Moot Court Competition will take place at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in the E.J. Ball Courtroom in Leflar Law Center. Members of the public are encouraged to attend.

Law students Katie Church and Madeline Kurrus will argue on behalf of the petitioner against fellow students Bryant Crooks and Charlotte Muse. The case they will argue explores the constitutionality of specialty license plates and the right to free speech.

The competition will be judged by Bradley Jesson, former Chief Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court; Price Marshall, U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Arkansas; and Nick Patton, the founder of Texarkana law firm Patton, Tidwell & Schroeder.

Competition semifinalist teams included Bryan Fisher and Caitlin Gezgin, and Matt Mitchell and John Thomas Shepherd. The teams that made it to the quarterfinal round were Cal Rose and Jen Rovetti, Ramon Bertucci and Kristin Ries, Louis Laski and Molly Magee, and Brooke South and Natalie Smittle.

The competition was organized by the Ben J. Altheimer Professor of Legal Advocacy, Robert B Leflar, and the School of Law Board of Advocates.
