University Office of Affirmative Action Renamed to Reflect Full Mission

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas has renamed its office of affirmative action to better describe its purpose and mission as that has evolved on campus. The office is now known as the office of equal opportunity and compliance.

“The new name better reflects the office’s roles and responsibilities,” said Don Pederson, vice chancellor for finance and administration. “It shows the institution’s commitment to providing equal opportunity for all students, employees and applicants.”

Danielle Wood and Jenifer Tucker will serve as interim co-directors of the office.

The office will have four main functions:

  • Non-classified staff/faculty recruitment: The office is responsible for monitoring the recruitment process to ensure that the University of Arkansas complies with federal regulations. Wood oversees this process.
  • Complaints: The office is responsible for investigating and resolving all allegations of discrimination on the basis of race, age, gender, national origin, religion, disability, veteran status, marital or parental status, genetic information and sexual orientation.  Tucker, who also serves as compliance officer, oversees this process and also serves as the campus coordinator for issues related to the Americans with Disabilities Act and Title IX.
  • Grievances: The office is responsible for facilitating the staff grievance process as well as assisting employees and supervisors in the informal resolution procedure. J’onnelle Colbert, grievance/personnel officer, oversees this process.
  • Training: The office is responsible for conducting training for the campus community on issues relating to the recruitment process and non-discrimination policy as well as supervisory development.

More information about university equal opportunity and compliance policies is available at the office website.
