Student Group to Host Discussion on Relationship Between Islam and Science

Arshad Mahmood Khan, assistant professor of biological sciences at the University of Texas, El Paso, will lead a seminar on the subject “Islam and Science: Friends or Foes?” from 3:30- 5 p.m. Friday, April 6 in the Arkansas Union Theatre. The event is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by Al-Islam (The Peace) Students Association and the university Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education.

Khan is a neurobiologist who works with the Neuroscience and Metabolic Disorders Unit of the Border Biomedical Research Center at UT-El Paso. He frequently speaks the Islamic religion’s perspective on modern science. His presentation will be followed by a question and answer session and a reception.

Al-Islam Students Association is a registered students’ organization that is striving to foster peace and harmony among peoples of various religions through a better understanding of each other’s beliefs and value systems.
