Garvan Woodland Gardens Hosts Salsa Cook-off on July 21

Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs will host its “First Ever Hotter Than July Salsa Cook-off” from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 21, on the Ellen Edmondson Great Lawn and Dierks Promenade. The event will include salsa and Caribbean music performed by Fire & Brimstone. The Chipmunk Café will be selling Mexican treats and beverages all afternoon. Tri-Lakes Liquor has graciously donated a Harley Davidson frozen margarita machine for the event.

Local radio talent Dick Antoine is serving as the emcee for the day and celebrity judges will determine the winners of the salsa-making contest. Sign up to be a contestant, or come taste the samples.

The cost to enter the salsa-making contest is $50 per team (up to five individuals). Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third places and for a People’s Choice award. The first place winner will also have their salsa professionally bottled and sold in the gardens’ Gift Shop, with all proceeds to benefit the gardens.

Garvan Woodland Gardens members receive free admission to the Salsa Cook-off; regular gardens admission prices apply to all others.

Garvan Woodland Gardens is the botanical garden of the University of Arkansas.
