University named in Chronicle of Higher Education’s “Great Colleges to Work For” Survey

Faculty, staff and administrators placed the University of Arkansas among the top 103 colleges and universities in the fifth annual “Great Colleges to Work For” survey by the by the Chronicle of Higher Education.

The university was recognized in the category of “Confidence in Senior Leadership”, which extended beyond top administrators. The survey noted references to the Wally Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center: “Instruction in teaching is led by professors, three of whom run a teaching-support center." Each faculty co-director serves for a rotating three year term, and is appointed by the provost.

“The truth is the University of Arkansas is an excellent place to work, and the goal is to make it a great one,” said Chancellor G. David Gearhart. “It is very satisfying to get this ‘vote of confidence’ from the faculty and staff, telling us we are moving in the right direction, but there is obviously still much more to be done.”

About 47,000 employees from nearly 300 higher education institutions responded to the survey, ranking their colleges and universities in a dozen categories. The University of Arkansas was one of two institutions from the Southeastern Conference rated in the survey.
