School of Social Work Promotes Visiting Instructor to Assistant Professor
Michael Collie
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The School of Social Work in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will transition Michael Collie from a visiting instructor to clinical assistant professor this fall.
Collie has taught in the School of Social Work since 2007 and earned a full-time visiting appointment in 2009. Collie has been working in the field of Social Work for the past 30 years in various capacities, from mental health paraprofessional, to clinical director of three hospitals and six outpatient clinics.
“Professor Collie has a wealth of clinical practice experience,” said Yvette Murphy-Erby, professor of social work and director of the school. “He has been a leader in developing online courses for the School of Social Work Global Campus effort.”
Collie holds a master in social work and licensure as a clinical social worker. He is the co-owner of Collie Clinical Consulting, conducts training for public schools and social service agencies and provides continuing education seminars for mental health professionals.
Collie has taught a variety of courses within the School of Social Work, including Advanced Practice with Individuals, Advanced Practice with Couples and Families, Practice I, Field Seminar, Advanced Practice in Mental Health, Foundations for Culturally Competent Social Work and Addictions and the Family. He also serves as the faculty representative for Phi Alpha, honor society for social work.
Collie received a bachelor of arts in anthropology/sociology from the University of Arkansas (1983) and earned a master of social work from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (1998).
