Walton College Professor Serving as American Accounting Association President

Karen V. Pincus speaks to American Accounting Association

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Karen V. Pincus, a professor in the accounting department in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas, is serving a one-year term as the president of the American Accounting Association.

Pincus, who holds the Doyle Z. and Maynette Derr Williams Chair in Professional Accounting, is president as part of her three-year position on the association’s board of directors. Her presidential term ends in August 2013.

She gave her presidential address at the association’s annual meeting last month in Washington D.C. Her talk focused on challenges and opportunities for accounting higher education. 

“Technology advances, demographic changes and economic pressures are converging to place higher education on the horizon of a period of major challenges in the next decade,” Pincus said.  “The AAA’s mission is to be a thought leader in accounting and to help our members be thought leaders on their campuses as we face these challenges ahead and turn them into opportunities to advance accounting education, research and practice.”

Pincus holds bachelor of science, master of business administration and doctorate degrees from the University of Maryland. Before joining the Walton College in 1995, she was on the faculty of the school of accounting at the University of Southern California.

The American Accounting Association promotes worldwide excellence in accounting education, research and practice. The association's 8,500 members are primarily accounting faculty members at colleges and universities throughout the world. The American Accounting Association will celebrate its 100th year anniversary in 2016.
