Rainforest Alliance President to Speak on Sustainabilty

Tensie Whelan, president of the Rainforest Alliance, will speak at the University of Arkansas on the ways that sustainability is entering the mainstream in countries around the world. Her lecture will be from 3:30-4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012 in the : Donald W. Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Whelan's lecture, "So Practical it's Radical: Mainstreaming Sustainability" will describe the ways that  sustainability is being mainstreamed in more than 80 countries; by more than 1.5 million producers and their families; and by more than 6,000 companies active at each link in the agriculture, forestry and tourism supply chains.

The Rainforest Alliance is a non-governmental organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior.

Whelan’s talk is being hosted by the Supply Chain Management Research Center in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas in collaboration with The Sustainability Consortium and the University of Arkansas Office for Sustainability.
