Film Screening Plus Lecture: Germany and the Wild West

Dr. Kathleen Condray, associate professor of  German and John Erwin, Fulbright College Honors Student, will discuss the "Legacy of Friedrich Gerstaecker" in advance of an international symposium on the author in October.

Condray will give a brief introduction of the author, and  Erwin will talk about his film The Children of the Mother Beaver, which was influenced by motifs in Gerstaecker's novel The Regulators of Arkansas. The film was screened at the 2012 Little Rock Film Festival this summer.

The lecture will be held at the Fayetteville Public Library from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12,  and is free and open to the public.

Those interested can also pick up an excerpt of Gerstaecker's Arkansas Wild West stories in translation at the Fayetteville Public Library in advance of the event; the copyright for the materials was kindly provided by the Arkansas Historical Quarterly.
