The ceremony will start with a recitation from the Quran, followed by a few words from Chancellor G. David Gearhart and Charles Robinson, vice provost for diversity affairs.
This event is in conjuction with the three-day Muslims for Life blood drive sponsored by Al-Islam Students Association, the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks, and the Multicultural Center. The blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 10, 11, and 12 in the multicultural center.
Al-Islam Students Association was founded after 9/11 to inform the community of the true teachings of Islam. After the attacks, many people had the misconception that the attacks were supported by Islamic teachings and the terrorists became the face of Islam, however the organization strives to change that misconception and show people that Islam is a peaceful religion.
