Architectural Historian McEwen to Lecture on Sept. 24

Indra Kagis McEwen, an architectural historian, will present a lecture titled “Whose Body?” at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24 at Hembree Auditorium (Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences Building, Room 107E) on the University of Arkansas campus.

McEwen has been an adjunct professor of art history at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, since 2003. She has taught at several universities, as well as, for 13 years, at the National Theatre School of Canada. She holds a professional degree in architecture and a doctorate in art history from McGill University in Montreal.

Her many publications include the books Socrates’ Ancestor: An Essay on Architectural Beginnings (The MIT Press, 1993, now in its fourth printing) and Vitruvius: Writing the Body of Architecture (The MIT Press, 2003). A Romanian translation of Socrates’ Ancestor has also just been published. She has received numerous research grants and has also been a visiting scholar at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal.

The public is invited to attend this lecture, which is presented by the Fay Jones School of Architecture. This is the Martha Dellinger Memorial Lecture, sponsored by Jim and Sharon Parker.
