FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas Children’s Choir will perform at 6:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall on Thursday, Oct. 18. The presentation is part of a series of concerts sponsored by the department of music in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.

The University of Arkansas Children’s Choir began in 1997 as a dream of Donna Wiggins, former professor of music at the University of Arkansas. The group’s size varies from year to year engaging 120-130 students from many schools in the Northwest Arkansas area. Some years, more than 50 schools have been represented by the choir, which includes three groups: UACC I, for students in the 4th and 5th grades, UACC II, for students in the 6th and 7th grades and UA Cantorum, for students in the 8th and 9th grades.

Under the direction of Candace Stafford-Davis and her assistants, the students are taught sight-singing, rhythm-reading, harmony, solfege and other skills. The groups focus on a diverse repertoire of styles including classical, Broadway, Spirituals, folk songs and pop music.

Find more information about the choir’s history and audition process. And find additional information about Stafford-Davis.

The Thursday night concert is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Stadium Drive Parking Facility, where parking is free after 5 p.m. Entrance to the parking facility is on Stadium Drive, and the facility’s elevator will take patrons to street level directly across from the Fine Arts Center.
