Garvan Woodland Gardens Celebrates Natural, Manmade Beauty

Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs is presenting several events this month that celebrate natural and manmade beauty.

  • For Saturday Strolls at Garvan Woodland Gardens, specially trained volunteer docents will lead groups through the garden landscapes, bringing attention each week to areas that are at their peak at that time. Visitors will learn about the history of the gardens and Lake Hamilton, as well as interesting plants they can grow at home.
  • Gardening 101 Workshop: “Fall/Winter Walk” will be held from 3-5 p.m. Nov. 29. Bob Byers, associate executive director, will lead a walk highlighting the wonders of late fall and winter in the gardens. Participants in the guided tour may stay to enjoy the annual Holiday Lights display.
  • An art exhibit featuring watercolor works by Bob Crane will be displayed through Nov. 30 in the Magnolia Room at the Welcome Center. His paintings reflect the moment-to-moment fragility of life, its impermanence and imperfections. He uses light to dark washes, bold strokes of wet in wet color, refined dry brush and meticulous detail.

Garvan Woodland Gardens is the botanical garden of the University of Arkansas. It was named one of the country’s five “most spectacular” gardens in a travel article in Bottom Line Personal newsletter.

Pre-payment and registration is required for some events. For more information, call 501-262-9300 or 800-366-4664.
