This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: Nov. 15-22

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will hold many events leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday including theater productions, concerts, art exhibitions and guest lectures. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these on-campus and off-campus performances in the visual and performing arts.

Louise Bourgeois’ Topiary: The Art of Improving Nature exhibition may be seen in the Fine Arts Center Gallery from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The exhibition opened on Nov. 7 and will close on Thursday, Dec. 13.

Blithe Spirit, a comic play by Noel Coward, will be performed at 8 p.m. from Nov. 15-17 and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 18 in the Fine Arts Center’s University Theatre. Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for faculty, staff and seniors, and $7 for children. Tickets for university students with a valid student I.D. are free on Thursday and $3 for other performances.

Oboists Cheryl Wefler and Bo Newsome along with music instructors Theresa Delaplain and Tomoko Kashiwagi will perform at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Bethany Hayes will give a trumpet recital at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Mark Haney will perform a voice recital at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, at Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The Fayetteville Public Library will host a live screening of Conlon Nancarrow: Virtuoso of the Player Piano produced by music professor James Greeson. The one-hour documentary will be shown at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, in the Walker Room.

The University of Arkansas Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band will perform in Walton Arts Center’s Baum Walker Concert Hall on Monday, Nov. 19. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and is presented as part of the Joy Pratt Markham Series. General admission is $10, $5 for senior citizens and $1 for students.

Paige Quinn will give a French horn recital at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
