This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: December 6-13

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will hold many events during the days preceding final exams and moving into finals including an art exhibition and several concerts. Students, faculty, staff and friends are encouraged to attend these on-campus and off-campus performances in the visual and performing arts.

Louise Bourgeois’ Topiary: The Art of Improving Nature exhibition may be seen in the Fine Arts Center Gallery from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The exhibition opened on Nov. 7 and will close on Thursday, Dec. 13.

Holiday favorites will be performed by the University of Arkansas Schola Cantorum, Concert Choir, Inspirational Chorale and Children's Choir for Winterfest: Holiday in Song. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, at University Baptist Church.

sUgAR Projects: Student Pop-up Gallery will host a series of open houses and receptions on Saturday, Dec. 8. The events will begin with a display by the Fay Jones School of Architecture at 12 noon in the Old Field House and continue with exhibits in the Fine Arts Center Gallery and Ceramic Studio at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.

Also on Saturday, Jura Margulis will perform a piano recital at noon, Paul Smith and Andrew Ennis will perform a percussion recital at 3:30 p.m., and Catalina Barraza will give a violin recital 7 p.m. All three concerts will be in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

James Greeson will perform a guitar recital at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. Greeson is a professor of composition and music theory in the department of music.
