University of Arkansas to Hold Beam-Signing Ceremony for New Building
The University of Arkansas will hold a beam signing ceremony for the newest residence hall on campus at 2 p.m. this Friday, Jan. 25, on the northwest Kimpel Hall patio.
Founders Hall, at the southwest corner of McIlroy and Dickson Street, will be the newest residence hall on campus. This building will connect to the Brough Commons Dining Hall and expand the seating capacity for the dining hall, which can be very crowded during the daily lunch rush.
Onnissia Harries, a student and president of the Residence Interhall Congress, will speak on the students’ perspective of life on a growing campus and what Founders Hall means for current and future students. Florence Johnson, executive director of university housing, will go into detail about the building itself and what effects it will have on the campus. Other speakers include Daniel Pugh, vice provost for student affairs and dean of students, and Chancellor G. David Gearhart.
After the speakers have concluded, those in attendance will have opportunity to sign their name on one of the key construction beams that will be placed in the building. Due to the pedestrian traffic nearby the beam will not be placed during the ceremony, but will be laid into place at a later date.
