Thousands of daffodils bloom in winter at Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, the botanical garden of the University of Arkansas.

Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs reopens on Feb. 1, hosting its month-long celebration of “Daffodil Days” all month long. Visitors can enjoy the more than 250,000 daffodils in various shades of yellow when the bright blooms make their annual appearance at the gardens.

Also, due to its popularity in December, the “Fabulous Fibers” art exhibit has been extended through February with new works added. This exhibit features an eclectic collection of fiber and thread wall art by contemporary fiber artist Darlene Garstecki. Her work has hung in several galleries and private collections, including the Fuller Art Center in Los Alamos, N.M.; the Butler Fine Art Gallery in Little Rock; the Flint Art Center in Flint, Mich.; the International Quilt Festival in Houston; the American Quilt Society International Competition in Paducah, Ky.; Gallery 726 in Hot Springs; and Woodlands Auditorium in Hot Springs Village.

Other activities at the gardens during February include:

  • Gardening 101 Workshop: “Back to the Future and Return of the Native” – 9:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 11, Magnolia Room
  • “Fa–A long, long way to run” 5K benefiting Lakeside Friends of the Arts – 7 a.m. Feb. 23, Garvan Pavilion and garden trails
  • Gardening 101 Workshop: “Soils and Composting” – 9:30 a.m. (soils) and 1 p.m. (composting) Feb. 28, garden grounds and Magnolia Room

Garvan Woodland Gardens is the botanical garden of the University of Arkansas.
