Student Standards and Conduct Office Names Director

Rachel Eikenberry has been named the director of the student standards and conduct office in the Division of Student Affairs. Eikenberry had been the assistant director and recently was operating as the interim director.

The student standards and conduct office, formerly known as the office of academic integrity and student conduct, handles all cases of misconduct including academic dishonesty. This past fall, Monica Holland, the director of the office, took on a new role under the provost’s office as the director of academic initiatives and integrity, a new office responsible for hearing reported cases of academic dishonesty. When this new office opened, the Division of Student Affairs changed the old office to the student standards and conduct office.

“We work specifically to promote a safe and orderly community by providing peer mentoring, leadership development, and education on the university’s behavioral standards and code of student life,” said Eikenberry. The academic initiatives and integrity office now handles any cases of plagiarism, cheating and other forms of academic dishonesty.

“Concentrating on behavioral matters and not academic dishonesty cases means we can now more efficiently aid in the development of student ethics and values as well as educate students about their rights and responsibilities as community members,” Eikenberry said. “The ultimate goal of my office is to help students understand the balance between individual and community rights and foster an atmosphere that is conducive to academic success.”

Eikenberry holds a master's degree in counselor education and student affairs from Clemson University and is currently working toward a doctorate in higher education. Eikenberry has worked in the field of student affairs for seven years; before she arrived in Arkansas she worked as complex coordinator for housing and residential services at the University of California, Santa Barbara. A search is under way to fill Eikenberry’s former position as assistant director.
