FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams begins on Friday, Feb. 22, at the University Theatre in the University of Arkansas Fine Arts Center.

Patrons are invited to join director Michael Landman, head of the master of fine arts directing program, and his cast of graduate and undergraduate students on a journey to the Louisiana coast where the timeless city of New Orleans stays hot with its street performers, jazz bars and neon lights of Bourbon Street.

Veering away from the film adaptation, this presentation of Williams’ most famous work seeks to paint the story in all new colors while staying true to this iconic American tale of characters caught in the clouds of manipulation, sex, power and hypocrisy.

The audience will go for a ride to Elysian Fields on A Streetcar Named Desire to meet Stanley Kowalski, his wife Stella. Here, they will experience the heart-wrenching events that ensue when Blanche DuBois, Stella’s sister, unexpectedly visits their seedy part of town.

With assistant direction by Brandyn Smith, scenic design by Ashley Burns, costume design by Kelly Henry, lighting design by Diana Kaiser, sound design by Will Eubanks and technical direction by Patrick Stone, this classic drama will run through Sunday, March 3. Performances will begin at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays.

Ticket prices are $16 for adults, $14 for faculty, staff and seniors, and $7 for children. University of Arkansas students may attend the show for free with a valid student I.D. on Wednesday and Thursday or for $3 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets may be purchased at the theatre’s ticket office from noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and two hours prior to each show. For reservations by phone, call (479) 575-4752. Tickets may also be purchased online at http://theatre.uark.edu/. University Theatre accepts cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express.

Parking is available in the Stadium Drive Parking Facility and is free after 5 p.m. Entrance to the parking facility is on Stadium Drive, and the facility’s elevator will take patrons to street level directly across from the Fine Arts Building.

A Streetcar Named Desire is made possible by the department of drama in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. This production recommended for mature audiences.
