'Woo Bid Sooie' Auction Live and Online Offering Everything from Pies to Skybox Experience

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ever wonder what it would be like to see the Hogs from the chancellor’s skybox at Donald W. Reynolds Stadium? Are you a would-be Top Chef looking for some instruction? How about a trip down the War Eagle River with an experienced guide?

The Walter J. Lemke department of journalism’s second annual online auction, “Woo Bid Sooie,” is live online now. Go to auction.uark.edu to see items and place a bid.

The auction will continue through March 28. All proceeds of the auction are for the purchase of a product or service, and successful bids are not tax-deductible charitable gifts.

The proceeds of all purchases will support the student travel fund. The fund supports graduate students as well as undergraduates who want to attend professional conferences for various job opportunities.

Woo Bid Sooie offers 42 items to be auctioned. Auction items include services from or social opportunities with professors, college administrators or community leaders, as well as books, DVDs and homemade food.

Items for auction include:

• Use of Chancellor G. David Gearhart’s skybox for the first football game of the season
• Personal tour of Crystal Bridges with Sandy Edwards, deputy director of museum relations
• Cooking lessons from Chef Tuesday Eastlack
• War Eagle river trip and lunch with Flip Putthoff, Northwest Arkansas Media outdoors writer
• Oral history-recording lesson and equipment use from the Pryor Center for Arkansas Oral and Visual History
• Two books by Roy Reed: Beware of Limbo Dancers, Reed’s memoir, and Looking Back at the Arkansas Gazette, an oral history edited by Reed.
• Two books about journalism: Leaving Readers Behind: The Age of Corporate Newspapering and Breach of Faith, by Gene Roberts and Thomas Kunkel.
• Political Magic, the first book by NWA Media columnist Brenda Blagg, detailing the time the “Arkansas Travelers” campaigned for Bill Clinton in New Hampshire
• A package of four documentaries by professor Larry Foley: Up Among the Hills, the history and culture of Fayetteville; Sacred Spaces: The Architecture of Fay Jones; Beacon of Hope: The Story of the University of Arkansas; and 22 Straight, the story of when the Arkansas Razorbacks dominated college football in the 1960s.
• A package of three Foley documentaries: The Art of Crystal Bridges; Bridge To War Eagle, which tells the stories of the old steel bridge and grist mill on War Eagle Creek; and The Buffalo Flows, stories about life on the Buffalo River.
