Nance, Johnson Named Co-Chairs of 2013 Red, White & True Effort
Annual employee giving program kicks off third yearThursday, March 14, 2013
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Red, White & True, the annual employee giving initiative that began two years ago, is gearing up for another successful term. Cyndi Nance, professor of law and dean emeritus, and Mike Johnson, associate vice chancellor for facilities, are serving as co-chairs for the 2013 effort. Both leaders share a passion for the University of Arkansas and understand the difference private gift support makes for our students and programs.
“I have truly benefited from the investment the University of Arkansas has made in me,” said Nance. “Because of the opportunities afforded to me by the law school and university, I have a meaningful, rewarding career, and I feel called to pay it forward by investing time and resources in the university and in lives of those it touches and transforms.”
Johnson added, “Our joy in giving is always all about the people who will benefit.… The rich heritage of the University of Arkansas creates wonderful, loyal human beings, and I am happy to co-chair this year’s Red, White & True effort to ensure that creation continues.”
The faculty and staff giving program is coordinated by Merin Macechko, associate director in the office of annual programs in university development.
“Just as our strength as a university comes from our people, Red, White & True is successful because of our volunteers,” Macechko said. “Cyndi Nance and Mike Johnson understand the importance of building an even better University of Arkansas from the inside out and will be wonderful ambassadors of philanthropy on campus.”
Since the program’s inception in 2011, 30 percent of faculty and staff — or 1,383 individuals — collectively gave more than half a million dollars to support our own students, programs, facilities and research. In the coming months, the campus community will hear more about the 2013 Red, White & True initiative and how individual gifts can come together to make a big difference for the YOU of A. After the success the program has seen so far, this year’s effort is poised to reach even greater heights!
