'Food for Thought' Lecture With Boozman Friday

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – U.S. Senator John Boozman will be the featured speaker as the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas begins its “Food for Thought” lecture series. Dr. Rajiv Shah, administrator for the U.S. Agency for International Development, was planning to speak as well, but has had to postpone his visit.

The event is set for 11:30 a.m. in Old Main’s Giffels Auditorium on campus. The town hall-type meeting is open to all students, faculty and staff.

Boozman will discuss the Hunger Caucus, which he has used to raise awareness and combat hunger issues in the United States, while emphasizing the importance of global engagement and sustainability.

The messages in the “Food for Thought” series are intended to focus on food, family and the environment, which corresponds with the goal of the Bumpers College: to advance the business of foods and the impact of foods on human health, environmental sustainability and human quality of life.

Boozman, who grew up in Fort Smith, was sworn in as U.S. senator on Jan. 5, 2011. He serves on four committees – agriculture, nutrition and forestry; appropriations; science and transportation; and veterans affairs.
