For Whom the Bell Tolls: Celebrating Senator Fulbright’s Birth

The Bill and Jo Ella Toller Celebration Bell at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House will ring at 3 p.m. today as the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences celebrates the 108th anniversary of Sen. Fulbright’s birth and the 50th anniversary of A Concert of Free Nations.

Last year, the college began a tradition of commemorating the birthday of the former university president and U.S. senator with a homecoming party for the Fulbright statue and a birthday celebration. This year, the practice continues with recounting some of Fulbright’s thoughts on international policy coupled with birthday cake, lemonade, music and drama.

The celebration will take place at 2:30 p.m. on the west side of Old Main and will include music by members of the HogWild Band, a dramatic interpretation of A Concert of Free Nations by the department of drama and remarks by Dean Robin Roberts.
