Student Group Invites Community to E.A.T. Together

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Phi Alpha Honor Society of the School of Social Work at the University of Arkansas will host E.A.T. Together from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18 at the Asbell Elementary School cafeteria, 1500 N. Sang Ave. in Fayetteville. The event and meal are free of charge and open to the public.

Families are invited to learn the advantages of eating fresh, local food while they watch local chefs and nutrition experts prepare a healthy and delicious meal.

“We want everyone at the table together, that’s what E.A.T. stands for,” said Tina Smith, Phi Alpha president. “We want people to be aware of the issues of food insecurity and food justice. We are promoting the idea of the family being together at the dinner table, enjoying meals that are healthy and affordable.”

Everyone attending can watch the chefs at work preparing the meal, hear them talk about the food they are using and quick, easy ways to prepare it at home.

The menu will put an emphasis on local food.

Members of the Fayetteville Farmers Market will have a booth to share information about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – SNAP. Other organizations that will have information booths at the event include Seeds that Feed, Tricycle Farms, Apple Seeds Inc., and Ozark Natural Foods.

There are also activities planned for the children attending the event and there will be drawings for door prizes donated by local businesses.

The event is being sponsored by the Phi Alpha Honor Society and Asbell Elementary.
