ARTwalk, Exhibitions Highlight Art Events in May
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – May brings an exciting close to the spring semester for the department of art in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, with many student art exhibitions on display at venues on and off campus.
The BA and BFA Annual Awards Exhibition opened on Monday, April 29, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. The exhibition will be on display until Saturday, May 4, with an awards presentation and gallery reception at 5 p.m. Friday, May 3. This exhibition is comprised of work from many media, showcasing students from each program in the department. The gallery will also be open Saturday, May 4, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. during the Spring 2013 ARTwalk.
University of Arkansas Student Gallery, sUgAR Projects: Student Pop-Up Gallery, will host the Spring 2013 ARTwalk Saturday, May 4, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. With work from the department of art in Fulbright College and the departments of landscape architecture and interior design in the Fay Jones School of Architecture, professors and students will be available at the Fine Arts Center Gallery, the Fine Arts Center studios and the Ceramics Studio (326 S. Eastern Avenue) to answer questions about their art. Receptions will be held at each location.
Senior painting and drawing students will continue a series of one-night exhibitions at LaLaLand Art Gallery. Students under the direction of painting professor Stephanie Pierce presented two exhibitions in April followed by two more in May. Stranded in Hypothesis by Shannon Vance will be on display Saturday, May 4, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Synthetic Syncopation by Ashley Lindsey and Stephanie Petet, will be on display Friday, May 10, with a reception from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. and music by WitchSister and Foley's Van starting at 9 p.m.
The Fine Arts Center Gallery will exhibit the work of graduating bachelor of fine arts students from Monday, May 6, until Saturday, May 11. The exhibition will also include a public reception at 5 p.m. Friday, May 10. The work will represent a wide range of media including painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture and graphic design. The gallery will also be open Saturday, May 11, from noon until 5 p.m. in conjunction with commencement events.
The Fine Arts Center Gallery is open from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday. All events are free and open to the public.
