University Chapter Honors Two at 60th Anniversary Reception

The University of Arkansas Chapter of Sigma Xi, the honors research society, held a reception at the Garden Room on Dickson Street on April 17. The reception was to celebrate the chapter’s 60th year of operation, induct new members and honor the chapter awardees for this year. Past chapter officers and current active members were in attendance. Nine new members were inducted.

The chapter awardees for 2012-13 are Roger Koeppe II and Adan Al-Rubaye.

Koeppe teaches in the department of chemistry and biochemistry and received the John Imhoff Outstanding Research Publication Award for his publication – N.J. Gleason, V.V. Vostrikov, D.V. Greathouse, and R.E. Koeppe II. "Buried lysine, but not arginine, titrates and alters transmembrane helix tilt," Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, USA. 110(5):1692-1695. The award includes a cash award from the endowment established by John Imhoff, a long-time member of the chapter and former professor of industrial engineering.

Adan Al-Rubaye was honored with the Aubrey E. Harvey Graduate Research Award. The cash award is from an endowment established by the family and friends of Harvey in recognition of his contributions to the graduate programs at the University of Arkansas. Al-Rubaye recently completed all his degree requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy in cell and molecular biology at the University of Arkansas.
