Arkansas Law Student Wins Distinguished Legal Writing Award
A University of Arkansas School of Law student has been named a 2013 Distinguished Legal Writing Award winner by the Burton Awards for Legal Achievement Committee. Third-year Arkansas law student Taylor “T.W.” Brown is one of only 15 law students in the nation to be honored with this award, given for the best student writing published in a law review or journal during the past year.
Brown will be honored June 3, 2013, at the Burton Awards Annual Gala at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. He will be joined at the event by his faculty adviser, law professor Laurent Sacharoff. Sacharoff offered guidance while Brown was working on his award-winning comment, “An Argument for Easing Felony Expungement in Arkansas,” which appeared in the School of Law’s student-run journal The Arkansas Law Review.
The Burton Awards are presented to authors who have written outstanding articles which are clear, concise, and comprehensive. The Board of Directors of the Burton Awards includes legal luminaries such as Judge Richard Posner, Judge Judith Kaye, Judge Alex Kozinski and U.S. Senator John Cornyn, among others.
Brown will serve as the student speaker at the 2013 School of Law Commencement on Saturday, May 18. He was elected by his peers for this honor.
